Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration

This year’s annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration will be spanning two days, Sunday, January 14th and Monday, January 15th.

On Sunday, at 3:00 pm, we will be gathering at the Stringer Fine Arts Center on the Hutchinson Community College Campus. There will be several speakers and musical selections, including some done by the HCC Jazz Band!

On Monday, at 2:00pm, there will be more music and speakers coming together at Second Missionary Baptist Church in Hutchinson. These speakers will include several State Representatives, and the musical selections will include those by the Buhler Varsity Choir, The Buhler Singers, and HCC Badinage!

Also on Monday, at 4:00pm, there will be a community reception taking place at The Cosmosphere! The community is invited to the Cosmosphere for performances from local musicians and dance troops. Light refreshments will be served in the newly renovated CosmoCafe and the public is invited to view a new exhibit in the museum rotunda titled “Dream Makers”, which celebrates the
contributions and accomplishments of several African-American astronauts.

The movie: “Hidden Figures”, the story of
a team of female African-American mathematicians who served a vital role in NASA during the early years of the U.S. space program, will be shown on Monday evening January 15 at 7:00 p.m.
